About

Conwy Camera Club is the oldest photographic society in North Wales, established in 1945. Originally it covered the whole of the region. It’s now one of the largest in Wales, with over 80 members whose photographic interests and experience cover a wide spectrum.

Many photographers have been inspired to join after viewing the club`s displays of prints in Conwy town center, changed at the start of every month since 1998!

The club has a friendly and social atmosphere, with photography regarded as a shared interest rather than a matter for studious concentration! Some of our activities are aimed at helping members to improve their work, explore new branches of photography and understand techniques like composition and exposure. At the same time there’s plenty for our more experienced members to enjoy, including lectures on digital imaging and talks by expert photographers.

Our club meetings are held on Tuesday evenings from September to May. Currently our meetings are a mix of Zoom (on-line) and physical, with the latter being held at St John’s Methodist Church, Rose Hill Street, Conwy, LL32 8LD what3words forwarded.prune.juggle

Our weekly evening meetings are supplemented by workshops, which cover several branches of photography including Portraiture, Action and Creative. The groups help members explore their shared specialist interests, as well as providing help and encouragement for those who are keen to develop their expertise in these subjects. See the Special Interest Groups (Workshops) gallery on this website for recent work from the groups.

We hold 10 internal competitions each year, judged by an external judge/photographer (usually a member of another camera club). Members learn a lot from the judges’ comments on their own work and the other images entered. We also enter work in external competitions with other clubs in the area.

Our philosophy is that it`s not your equipment that counts but the way you use it. By looking at other people`s pictures, club members receive inspiration and understand how to improve their own photography.
