This month’s display on the club’s screen at the GH Edwards shop in Conwy High Street features work by Dennis Oliver, a sequence of ‘Urban Exploration’ images and more results from the club’s ‘Summer Along the Coast’ archive project. You can also view the sequence below.
Dennis joined the club and upgraded to a Nikon D7000 after retiring in 2015. He has made new friends at the club, taken part in competitions and improved his photography. His main photographic interest is shipping, and his display covers, among other subjects, the Llandudno lifeboat, a dredger at Bangor, the paddle steamer Waverley at Llandudno pier, and the Island Reach, which recently sailed to Madagascar after being converted into a hospital ship at Conwy quay.
The ’Urban Exploration’ sequence reflects members’ wide-ranging ideas and techniques when photographing in towns and cities. Topics include architecture, street life, murals, art, reflections, decay and demolition.
Last summer, club members returned to the locations shown in a selection of historic photos from Conwy Archive Service, all depicting aspects of leisure along the coast from Llanfairfechan to Kinmel Bay. This month we present two more ‘then and now’ pairs: Colwyn Bay seafront in 1935 and in 2024; and contrasting buildings and clothing at Deganwy foreshore c.1900 and in last year.
