Ken Simms showcase and ‘Architecture’

This month’s display on the club’s screen at the GH Edwards shop in Conwy High Street features work by Ken Simms, a sequence of ‘Architecture’ images and more results from the club’s ‘Summer Along the Coast’ archive project. You can also view the sequence below.

Ken has been interested in photography since childhood. His sequence of photos reflects his passion for steam locomotives and railways and his willingness to try his hand at other photographic subjects. Since joining Conwy Camera Club in 2020, he has enjoyed entering club and national competitions and taking part in club projects.

The ‘Architecture’ sequence reveals contrasting ways to photograph the built environment, from townscapes down to individual buildings or just a detail on a building. Many of the images use reflections in glass to present interesting patterns, others show how buildings take on a different character at night.

This month’s pairs of ‘Then and Now’ images depict Happy Valley in the 1920s and – with bigger trees – in 2024, and views of St Trillo’s Chapel, Rhos-on-Sea, roughly 50 years apart.
