Junior member’s photography award

Congratulations to Sam Kettle, one of Conwy Camera Club’s junior members, who has received an award for his photography.

The award was presented by his school, Ysgol Brynhyfryd, for Outstanding Endeavour in Photography for the GCSE course he completed in June. Sam, aged 16, has now started an A Level course in Art Photography.

Club members enjoyed viewing the images Sam entered in competitions last season and are looking forward to seeing more of his work in the new season, which started last month. His favourite photographic subject is motorsport, and he recently visited the Isle of Man to watch and photograph the TT races. He has also taken part in club workshops – including a visit to Trac Môn racing circuit on Anglesey.

Conwy Camera Club has a history of supporting junior members who wish to improve their photographic skills. The annual membership subscription is halved for those aged 18 and under. Within the club, there’s a wealth of expertise for young photographers to tap into. They are inspired by viewing the work of guest speakers and benefit from listening to critiques of images entered by members in club competitions.

Gwion Clark, a junior member of the club for five years until he moved away to university in 2021, won the Railway Photographic Society Special Award last year in the UK’s Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition.
