The steeples of these two beautiful, but very different Cathedrals form part of the Liverpool skyline. This project was designed to compare and contrast some of their distinctive features both external and internal.
The Neo-Gothic style of the Anglican Cathedral designed in1904 and the Modern style of the Catholic Cathedral designed in the1960s are typical of the designs, building materials and building techniques of their times. The Anglican Cathedral took 70 years to build compared with the 5 years to complete the Catholic Cathedral.
I have compared the support structures, the altars, fonts and stained glass in the two buildings. The most obvious and striking differences are in the apparent simplicity of the Catholic Cathedral designs compared with the intricate and ornate designs used in the Anglican Cathedral.
